About Us

We, Ana Paula de Sousa and my husband, Mário de Sousa, met and lived for several years in France. It was during one of our holiday trips to Portugal, to my in-laws’ home in Valverde, Vidago, that this story took deeper root. At that time, Dona Alcina, Mário’s mother, was already producing a small amount of olive oil, exclusively for family consumption. It was a simple production, carried out with dedication and respect for the land, as was common in a humble family that relied on cultivation for much of its livelihood. Our olive grove was planted with the family’s history in mind, and with the hope that this legacy will be carried on by future generations. All the work in the grove is done as naturally as possible: maintenance respects the balance of the land, and the harvest is carried out by hand, ensuring that each olive is picked at its optimal point of ripeness, while preserving the trees to the fullest. The grove is located in pastureland with excellent sun exposure, offering ideal conditions for producing high-quality olive oil. Olive trees are a symbol of hope, renewal, and continuity — values that inspire us every day. With each harvest, we renew our commitment to developing a sustainable, authentic brand that remains true to its origins, ensuring that the name Dona Alcina endures over time as a symbol of quality, respect, and tradition.
